रामलक्षणवर्णनम् (Description of Rama and Lakshmana; Alliance Narrative to Sita)
स श्रुत्वा वानरेन्द्रस्तु लक्ष्मणेनेरितं वचः।तदासीन्निष्प्रभोऽत्यर्थं ग्रहग्रस्त इवांशुमान्।।।।
sa śrutvā vānarendrastu lakṣmaṇenīritaṃ vacaḥ | tadāsīn niṣprabho ’tyarthaṃ grahagrasta ivāṃśumān ||
Hearing Lakṣmaṇa’s words, the lord of the Vānaras became utterly without luster—like the sun when seized by a planet in eclipse.
"Having heard the words of Lakshmana, the king of vanaras became extremely lustreless like the Sun overshadowed by the planet Rahu.
Dharma includes accountability: Sugrīva’s loss of radiance reflects the moral weight of hearing Rāma’s suffering and recognizing the urgency of righteous assistance.
After Lakṣmaṇa conveys Rāma’s grief, Sugrīva is shaken and visibly distressed, compared to the eclipsed sun.
Sugrīva’s capacity for remorse and seriousness when confronted with the consequences of delay or neglect.
