सीताविलापः — Sita’s Lament and Prophecy of Lanka’s Ruin
राक्षसीवशमापन्ना भर्त्स्यमाना सुदारुणम्।चिन्तयन्ती सुदुःखार्ता नाहं जीवितुमुत्सुहे।।।।
nūnaṃ mamaiva śokena sa vīro lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ |
devalokam ito yātas tyaktvā dehaṃ mahītale ||
Surely, stricken by grief for me, that hero—the elder brother of Lakṣmaṇa—has left this world, abandoning his body upon the earth, and gone to the realm of the gods.
"Having fallen under the clutches of the dreadful demonesses and threatened by them, I am so full of woes and worries that I don't want to live.
The verse underscores the dharmic bond of spouse and protector: separation through injustice produces profound suffering, showing why adharma (abduction, coercion) is a grave moral rupture.
Sītā, lacking news of rescue, fears Rāma may have died from grief after failing to find her.
