समुद्रलङ्घनारम्भः — Commencement of the Ocean-Crossing

अहमिक्ष्वाकुनाथेन सगरेण विवर्धितः।इक्ष्वाकुसचिवश्चायं नावसीदितुमर्हति।।।।

aham ikṣvākunāthena sagareṇa vivardhitaḥ |

ikṣvākusacivaś cāyaṃ nāvasīditum arhati ||

I was enlarged by Sagara, lord of the Ikṣvākus; and this one is a servant of the house of Ikṣvāku—he does not deserve to come to harm.

'I expanded on account of a scion of the Ikshvaku race (Sagara) and I should not do anything to make him (Hanuman) suffer since he is the minister helping the Ikshvaku race'.

S
Sāgara (Sea-god)
K
King Sagara
I
Ikṣvāku dynasty
H
Hanumān

Kṛtajñatā (gratitude) is dharma: one should repay benefaction and protect those serving a righteous lineage and truthful cause.

The Sea-god recalls his connection to King Sagara and decides Hanumān, acting for the Ikṣvāku cause, must not be allowed to suffer.

Gratitude and protective duty toward those engaged in dharmic service.
