मैत्रीप्रतिज्ञा-वैरकारणप्रश्नः (Friendship Vow and Inquiry into the Cause of Enmity)
हृता भार्या च मे तेन प्राणेभ्योऽपि गरीयसी।सुहृदश्च मदीया ये संयता बन्धनेषु ते।।
hṛtā bhāryā ca me tena prāṇebhyo ’pi garīyasī | suhṛdaś ca madīyā ye saṃyatā bandhanaṣu te ||
By him my wife—dearer to me even than life—was taken away; and those friends of mine were seized and kept in bondage.
'I was robbed of my wife who is dearer than my own life. All my friends were rounded up and imprisoned.
Dharma protects family bonds and social order; taking another’s wife and imprisoning allies are presented as grave breaches of righteous conduct.
