Shloka 4.7.9
काकुत्स्थस्य शोकनिग्रहः—सुग्रीवसान्त्वनम् (Rama’s Grief Restrained—Sugriva’s Consolation)
व्यसने वाऽर्थकृच्छ्रे वा भये वा जीवितान्तके।विमृशन्वै स्वया बुद्ध्या धृतिमान्नावसीदति।।
mahānubhāvasya vaco niśamya harir nṛpāṇām ṛṣabhasya tasya | kṛtaṃ sa mene harivīramukhyaḥ tadā svakāryaṃ hṛdayena vidvān ||
Having heard the words of that magnanimous bull among kings, the wise chief of monkey-heroes felt in his heart that his own purpose had been fulfilled.
'In times of grief or loss of wealth or at the hour of death, one who is patient does not abandon his wisdom, he does not despair.
Dharma as trust in righteous alliance: Sugrīva recognizes that association with a dharmic king (Rāma) secures legitimate aims through truthful commitment.
At the close of the sarga, the narrator notes Sugrīva’s inner satisfaction after hearing Rāma’s words, sensing his objective is now assured.
Prudent discernment (hṛdayena vidvān): Sugrīva reads the moral certainty in Rāma’s speech and responds with confident resolve.
