संपाति-उपदेशः / Sampati Instructed and the Search Mission Foretold
सा च कामैः प्रलोभ्यन्ती भक्ष्यै:भोज्यैश्च मैथिली।नभोक्ष्यति महाभागा दुःखे मग्ना यशस्विनी।।4.62.7।।
tvayāpi khalu tat kāryaṃ tayoś ca nṛpa-putrayoḥ | brāhmaṇānāṃ surāṇāṃ ca munīnāṃ vāsavasya ca ||
Truly, that task is to be carried out by you—not only for those two princely sons, but also for the brāhmaṇas, the gods, the sages, and for Vāsava (Indra) as well.
'Immersed in grief, chaste and famed Sita, will not take any food or enjoy pleasures however much she is tempted.
Dharma is universal-benefit action: helping Rāma is simultaneously service to society’s moral order—brāhmaṇas, sages, and even gods—because satya and dharma are mutually sustaining.
The sage expands the scope of Sampāti’s duty: the assistance is not merely personal help to Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa but supports the wider cosmic and social order.
Impersonal duty (niṣkāma-sevā): acting for the common good rather than narrow self-interest.
