Shloka 4.61.14

सूर्यानुगमनवृत्तान्तः — The Account of Following the Sun

जटायुर्मामनापृच्छ्य निपपात महीं ततः।तं दृष्ट्वा तूर्णमाकाशादात्मानं मुक्तवानहम्।।।।

manaś ca me hataṃ bhūyaḥ sannivartyatu saṃśrayam | yatnena mahatā hy asmin punas sandhāya cakṣuṣī ||

yatnena mahatā bhūyo bhāskaraḥ pratilokitaḥ | tulyaḥ pṛthvīpramāṇena bhāskaraḥ pratibhāti nau ||

My mind, shaken once more, turned away from its support; yet with great effort I refocused my eyes upon it again. Striving hard, I looked once more and beheld the Sun, which to us appeared equal in measure to the earth.

'Without taking leave of me Jatayu descended down to the earth. Seeing that, I also followed him down quickly from the sky.

Sampāti describes struggling to focus his vision and then seeing the Sun appear enormously magnified.

Perseverance (dhṛti): he exerts great effort to regain focus despite confusion and fear.
