सम्पातिवृत्तान्तः — Sampāti’s Account and the Sage Niśākara
कृत्वा निश्शब्दमेकाग्रा श्श्रुण्वन्तु हरयो मम।तत्वं सङ्कीर्तयिष्यामि यथा जानामि मैथिलीम्।।4.60.3।।
kṛtvā niḥśabdam ekāgrāḥ śṛṇvantu harayo mama | tattvaṃ saṅkīrtayiṣyāmi yathā jānāmi maithilīm || 4.60.3 ||
Remain silent and listen with single-pointed attention, O monkeys. I shall declare the truth—how I came to know about the princess of Mithilā.
'O monkeys! I shall tell you in detail how I came to know the princess from Mithila. Listen quietly with rapt attention:
Satya (truthfulness) is foregrounded: Sampāti promises a factual account (‘tattva’) and asks for disciplined listening, reflecting dharma in speech and learning.
Sampāti begins his explanation to the vānaras, preparing to narrate how he has knowledge relevant to Sītā’s whereabouts.
Integrity in testimony—speaking carefully and asking the audience to listen attentively so truth is transmitted without distortion.
