आभरण-प्रत्यभिज्ञानम् (Recognition of Sītā’s Ornaments)
हृदि कृत्वा तु बहुशस्तमलङ्कारमुत्तमम्।निशश्वास भृशं सर्पो बिलस्थ इव रोषितः।।4.6.18।।
hṛdi kṛtvā tu bahuśas tam alaṅkāram uttamam |
niśaśvāsa bhṛśaṃ sarpo bilastha iva roṣitaḥ || 4.6.18 ||
Pressing those excellent ornaments again and again to his chest, Rāma breathed hard—like an enraged serpent coiled within its hole.
Pressing the excellent ornaments to his bosom again and again Rama hissed like a cobra provoked in its anthill.
Dharma here is shown indirectly: Rama’s steadfast marital fidelity and responsibility make Sita’s loss unbearable; righteous love is not casual attachment but a duty-bound bond.
Rama holds the recovered ornaments believed to be Sita’s and is overwhelmed with grief and anger.
Rama’s unwavering devotion and protective resolve toward Sita, even amid intense emotional turmoil.
