With tears flowing without pause, Rāma looked to Saumitri at his side and began to lament in utter misery.
Rama began to wail piteously while tears streamed down his eyes incessantly. He looked at Saumitri standing by his side and said:
Dharma includes truthful acknowledgement of suffering without abandoning duty; Rama’s grief does not cancel his responsibility to act rightly and seek Sita.
Rama, overwhelmed, turns toward Lakshmana and begins lamenting, setting up his next words.
Emotional sincerity joined with perseverance—Rama does not suppress truth (satya) about his pain.
