मैत्रीप्रतिष्ठा (Rama–Sugriva Alliance and Fire-Rite of Friendship)

उपकारफलं मित्रं विदितं मे महाकपे4.5.26।।वालिनं तं वधिष्यामि तव भार्यापहारिणम्।

upakāraphalaṃ mitraṃ viditaṃ me mahākape | vālinam taṃ vadhiṣyāmi tava bhāryāpahāriṇam ||4.5.26||

O great monkey, I know that true friendship bears fruit through mutual help. I will slay that Vālin who has taken your wife.

'O great monkey! I know friendship is the fruit of a beneficial deed. I will kill that Vali who has usurped your wife.

Dharma of friendship and justice: Rāma links alliance to righteous reciprocity and condemns the adharma of taking another’s wife.
