मैत्रीप्रतिष्ठा (Rama–Sugriva Alliance and Fire-Rite of Friendship)
उपकारफलं मित्रं विदितं मे महाकपे4.5.26।।वालिनं तं वधिष्यामि तव भार्यापहारिणम्।
upakāraphalaṃ mitraṃ viditaṃ me mahākape | vālinam taṃ vadhiṣyāmi tava bhāryāpahāriṇam ||4.5.26||
O great monkey, I know that true friendship bears fruit through mutual help. I will slay that Vālin who has taken your wife.
'O great monkey! I know friendship is the fruit of a beneficial deed. I will kill that Vali who has usurped your wife.
Dharma of friendship and justice: Rāma links alliance to righteous reciprocity and condemns the adharma of taking another’s wife.
Rāma accepts Sugrīva’s cause and declares his intent to remove Vālin, thereby securing Sugrīva and advancing their alliance.
Rāma’s steadfastness (satya in resolve) and commitment to righteous reparation for wrongdoing.
