Shloka 4.43.39
सुग्रीवस्य शतवलि-प्रेषणम् (Sugriva’s Commission to Satavali for the Northern Search)
तं तु देशमतिक्रम्य शैलोदा नाम निम्नगा।उभयोस्तीरयोस्तस्याः कीचका नाम वेणवः।।।।ते नयन्ति परं तीरं सिद्धान्प्रत्यानयन्ति च।
gabhastibhir ivārkasya sa tu deśaḥ prakāśate |
viśrāmyadbhis tapas-siddhair devakalpaiḥ svayaṃprabhaiḥ ||
Yet that land shines as though lit by the sun’s rays, for there rest self-effulgent ascetics—godlike sages, perfected through the power of tapas.
'Passing that region you will reach a mountain stream called Sailoda. On both the banks of the stream are bamboo groves called Kichakas. They waft the siddhas to and from the river. (Kichakas bend forward forming an arch and thus help sages to cross the river.)
Dharma affirms that inner purity and truthfulness (gained through tapas) become a source of light for the world, guiding others even in darkness.
After describing a sunless region, Sugrīva explains it is illuminated by the presence of self-radiant perfected ascetics.
Faith in spiritual merit—recognizing that disciplined righteousness can sustain and illumine a community.
