सुग्रीवस्य शतवलि-प्रेषणम् (Sugriva’s Commission to Satavali for the Northern Search)
ततस्सन्दिश्य सुग्रीवश्श्वशुरं पश्चिमां दिशम्।वीरं शतवलिं नाम वानरं वानरर्षभः।।।।
tatra mlēcchān pulindāṃś ca śūrasenāṃs tathaiva ca | prasthalān bharatāṃś caiva kurūṃś ca saha madrakaiḥ ||
kāmbojān yavanāṃś caiva śakān āraṭṭakān api | bāhlīkān ṛṣikāṃś caiva pauravān atha ṭaṅkaṇān ||
cīnān parama-cīnānś ca nīhārāṃś ca punaḥ punaḥ | anviṣya daradāṃś caiva himavantaṃ tathaiva ca ||
There, search among the Mlecchas and Pulindas, and also the Śūrasenas; the Prasthalas, the Bharatas, and the Kurus along with the Madrakas; the Kāmbojas and Yavanas, the Śakas and Āraṭṭakas; the Bāhlīkas, Ṛṣikas, Pauravas, and Ṭaṅkaṇas; and again and again search among the Cīnas, Parama-Cīnas, Nīhāras, and Daradas, and likewise in the Himavat range.
Sugriva, the bull among monkeys, having sent his father-in-law in the western direction, said to Satavali, troop leader of the monkeys:
Dharma is impartial commitment to the mission: one searches everywhere without prejudice—across diverse peoples and far frontiers—because the righteous aim (finding Sītā) overrides comfort and familiarity.
Sugrīva lays out an expansive itinerary of peoples and regions—extending to Himavat—to ensure the search for Sītā is exhaustive.
Vyavasāya (determined enterprise) and tireless effort (punaḥ punaḥ anviṣya).
