दक्षिणदिशि सीतान्वेषण-आदेशः (Commissioning the Southern Search for Sītā)
विदर्भानृषिकांश्चैव रम्यान्माहिषकानपि।तथा वङ्गान्कलिङ्गांश्च कौशिकांश्च समन्ततः।।।।अन्वीक्ष्य दण्डकारण्यं सपर्वतनदीगुहाम्।नदीं गोदावरीं चैव सर्वमेवानुपश्यत।।।।तथैवान्ध्रांश्च पुण्ड्रांश्च चोलान्पाण्ड्यांत्स केरलान्।
nīlam agnisutaṃ caiva hanumantaṃ ca vānaram |
pitāmahasutaṃ caiva jāmbavantaṃ mahābalam ||
suhotraṃ ca śarāriṃ ca śaragulmaṃ tathaiva ca |
gajaṃ gavākṣaṃ gavayaṃ suṣeṇam ṛṣabhaṃ tathā ||
maindaṃ ca dvividaṃ caiva vijayaṃ gandhamādanam |
ulkāmukham asaṅgaṃ ca hutāśanasutāv ubhau ||
aṅgadapramukhān vīrān vīraḥ kapigaṇeśvaraḥ |
vegavikramasampannān sandidēśa viśeṣavit ||
Sugrīva, the heroic and discerning lord of the monkey-host, dispatched under Aṅgada’s leadership swift and valiant warriors—Nīla, son of Agni; Hanumān; the mighty Jāmbavān, said to be born of the Grandfather (Brahmā); and also Suhotra, Śarāri, Śaragulma, Gaja, Gavākṣa, Gavaya, Suṣeṇa, Ṛṣabha, Mainda, Dvivida, Vijaya, Gandhamādana, and the two sons of Agni, Ulkāmukha and Asaṅga.
'Look for Sita in the countries of Vidarbha and Rishika, in the picturesque country of Mashaka, Vanga and Kalinga and all over Kausika. Look for her in mountains caves and on river banks, in Dandaka forest, in Godavari, in Andhra also; in Pundra, Chola and Pandya countries and all over Kerala.
Dharma here is organized service to a righteous cause: selecting capable persons and assigning them responsibility for the welfare of others (the search for Sītā as part of Rāma’s just mission).
After forming an alliance with Rāma, Sugrīva begins deploying different vānara teams in various directions; here he appoints the southern contingent and names its principal warriors under Aṅgada’s leadership.
Sugrīva’s discernment and leadership—he recognizes merit (strength, speed, bravery) and structures a mission through clear delegation and command.
