Survey and search the Vindhya with its thousand peaks, rich in many trees and creepers, and the lovely river Narmadā, frequented by great serpents. Then proceed to the delightful Godāvarī, to Kṛṣṇaveṇī, to the great river Mahānadī, and also to Varadā and Mahābhāgā—regions haunted by mighty serpents. Observe and search Mekhalā and Utkalā, the towns of Daśārṇa, and also Āśvavantī and Avantī—indeed, search all of them thoroughly.
'Search for Sita all over Vindhya of a thousand peaks filled with several trees and creepers, and along the river Narmada. Then proceed to Godavari, lovely Krishnaveni, Mahanadi, Varada and Mahabhaga inhabited by terrific serpents. You may search Mekhala, Utkala and Dasarna cities, Asvavanti and Avanti countries also.
Dharma as meticulous duty: the righteous mission requires exhaustive coverage of terrain, not abandoning effort due to hardship or fear.
Sugrīva (in the southern dispatch) lists major mountains, rivers, and regions to be surveyed while searching for Sītā.
Perseverance and courage—continuing the search even through dangerous serpent-haunted regions.
