हनूमद्-दूत्यम् / Hanuman’s Mediation and Lakshmana’s Appeal to Sugriva
प्रसन्नमुखवर्णश्च व्यक्तं हृष्टश्च भाषते।नानृतं वक्ष्यते वीरो हनुमान्मारुतात्मजः।।
prasannamukhavarṇaś ca vyaktaṃ hṛṣṭaś ca bhāṣate | nānṛtaṃ vakṣyate vīro hanumān mārutātmajaḥ ||
His bright, cheerful countenance makes it plain that he speaks with joy. The heroic Hanumān, son of the Wind, will not speak untruth.
'It is evident from his words and from his cheerful face that Hanuman is pleased. (I know that) this heroic son of the Wind-god will never tell a lie'.
Satya (truthfulness) is central to dharma: a righteous alliance rests on trust, and Hanumān is affirmed as one who will not utter falsehood.
Lakṣmaṇa interprets Hanumān’s demeanor and assures Rāma of Hanumān’s truthfulness.
Hanumān’s satyavāditā (truth-speaking) and heroic integrity.
