तारोपदेशः — Tara’s Counsel to Lakshmana (Restraint, Time, and Mobilization)
सत्त्वयुक्ता हि पुरुषास्त्वद्विधाः पुरुषर्षभ।अविमृश्य न रोषस्य सहसा यान्ति वश्यताम्।।।।
sattvayuktā hi puruṣās tvadvidhāḥ puruṣarṣabha |
avimṛśya na roṣasya sahasā yānti vaśyatām ||
Bull among men, persons of steady virtue like you do not suddenly fall under the control of anger without first reflecting rightly.
'O bull among men! men with right vision like you do not become angry instantly without right thinking.
True strength is mastery over anger; reflection before reaction is a hallmark of dharmic character.
Tārā appeals to Lakṣmaṇa’s known nobility, reminding him that the righteous do not act from sudden rage.
Dama (self-restraint), especially emotional discipline in conflict.
