लक्ष्मणक्रोधः सुग्रीवप्रबोधनं च (Lakshmana’s Wrath and the Summoning of Sugriva)
स निद्रामदसंवीतो वानरो न विबुद्धवान्।बभूव मदमत्तश्च मदनेन च मोहितः।।
sa nidrāmadasaṃvīto vānarō na vibuddhavān | babhūva madamattaś ca madanena ca mohitaḥ ||
But the Vanara, wrapped in sleep and drunkenness, did not come to his senses—intoxicated and further deluded by desire.
The monkey was too drowsy with drink, too intoxicated with passion to come back to his senses.
Dharma warns against negligence born of indulgence: a ruler’s duty collapses when sleep, drink, and passion overpower vigilance and responsibility.
Sugriva remains in a state of intoxication and sensual distraction, contributing to the delay that provokes Lakshmana.
By contrast (through critique), the virtue highlighted is self-mastery—control of senses as necessary for kingship and fidelity to promises.
