हनूमता सुग्रीवस्य कालधर्मोपदेशः — Hanuman’s Counsel on Timely Ally-Duty
कुलस्य हेतुः स्फीतस्य दीर्घबन्धुश्च राघवः।अप्रमेयप्रभावश्च स्वयं चाप्रतिमो गुणैः।।
kulasya hetuḥ sphītasya dīrghabandhuś ca rāghavaḥ |
aprameyaprabhāvaś ca svayaṃ cāpratimo guṇaiḥ ||
Rāghava is the cause of your family’s prosperity and steadfastness, and he will be a lasting ally; his might is immeasurable, and in virtues he is without equal.
'Rama is responsible in lending stability to you and to your well-known family. He will continue to be your ally for a long time. Let it be known that his power is boundless and his virtues peerless.
Recognize and honor benefaction: dharma includes gratitude and truthful appraisal of virtue and power, especially toward one who secured your welfare.
Sugriva is reminded of Rama’s decisive role in his restoration and the seriousness of keeping faith with such an ally.
Rama’s guṇa (excellence) and steadfast alliance; the implied virtue demanded of Sugriva is gratitude and fidelity.
