Having made an agreement with Sugrīva, sinless Rāma—the delight of the Raghu line—spoke weighty words, timely and apt, to his obedient brother Lakṣmaṇa, the enhancer of his glory.
On hearing the good counsel and auspicious words of Lakshmana, Rama spoke these loving and warm words:
Dharma here is honoring a rightly made pact (samaya) and speaking what is appropriate to time and circumstance (kālayukta). Rāma models disciplined, principled leadership grounded in truth and reliability.
After forming an alliance-agreement with Sugrīva for Sītā’s search, Rāma turns to Lakṣmaṇa and begins giving a timely plan for how they will proceed during the rainy season.
Rāma’s prudence and integrity—he keeps alliances orderly and communicates with measured, timely speech; Lakṣmaṇa’s obedience and disciplined support are also highlighted.
