Shloka 4.25.43
वालिनः और्ध्वदैहिकम् — Vali’s Funeral Rites and the Consolation of the Bereaved
इमास्तास्तव राजेन्द्र वानर्योवल्लभास्सदा।पादैर्विकृष्ट मध्वानमागताः किं न बुध्यसे4.25.43।।
taveṣṭā nanu nāmaitā bhāryāś candranibhānanāḥ | idānīṃ nekṣase kasmāt sugrīvaṃ plavageśvaram || 4.25.44 ||
Indeed, these moon-faced wives were once your beloveds. Why do you not look at them now? Why do you not look upon Sugriva, the lord of monkeys?
'O king of kings! why don't you understand that these female monkeys, your wives who were dear to you have come on foot this long distance with great difficulty?
It stresses accountability in relationships: affection, rivalry, and rulership create obligations whose consequences remain even after death.
Tārā laments that Vāli cannot see those once dear to him, including Sugrīva, in this final moment.
Truthful remembrance—Tārā does not sanitize the past; she names relationships and their emotional realities.
