वालिवधोत्तरशोकः — Sugriva’s Remorse and Tara’s Lament after Vali’s Death
मा वीरभार्ये विमतिं कुरुष्वलोको हि सर्वो विहितो विधात्रा।तं चैव सर्वं सुखदुःखयोगंलोकोऽब्रवीत्तेन कृतं विधात्रा।।।।
mā vīra-bhārye vimatim kuruṣva |
loko hi sarvo vihito vidhātrā |
taṃ caiva sarvaṃ sukha-duḥkha-yogaṃ |
loko 'bravīt tena kṛtaṃ vidhātrā ||
O wife of a hero, do not let your mind fall into despair. The whole world moves according to the ordinance set by the Creator; and people say that every conjunction with happiness and sorrow is made so by that very Disposer.
'O wife of a valiant warrior! Do not lose heart. The entire world is controlled by the creator. People maintain that joy and sorrow are foreordained.
Dharma here is emotional discipline in sorrow: one should not surrender to despair, but accept life’s alternation of joy and grief as part of a larger order, and act rightly despite pain.
After Tārā’s lament for Vāli, Rāma begins to console her by framing suffering within the Creator’s ordinance.
Rāma’s steadiness (dhairya) and compassionate instruction—he offers philosophical reassurance rather than escalation of grief.
