Shloka 4.21.7

ताराशोकविनोदनम् (Consolation of Tara and Counsel on Succession)

यदयं न्यायदृष्टार्थस्सामदानक्षमापरः।गतो धर्मजितां भूमिं नैनं शोचितुमर्हसि।।

yad ayaṃ nyāya-dṛṣṭārthaḥ sāma-dāna-kṣamā-paraḥ | gato dharma-jitāṃ bhūmiṃ nainaṃ śocitum arhasi ||

Since this hero, clear-sighted in justice and devoted to conciliation, generosity, and forgiveness, has gone to the realm attained by those who conquer through righteousness, it is not proper for you to mourn him.

'This hero with a right vision, adopted the means of conciliation, charity and forgiveness (in his administration) and has finally reached a position through righteousness in his death. It is not proper to mourn for him.

Dharma-centered governance and conduct (sāma, dāna, kṣamā) lead to an honored end; grief should be tempered by recognition of righteous life and rightful destiny.

Tārā is urged to restrain sorrow by remembering Vāli’s kingly qualities and the dharmic outcome as understood in the epic worldview.

Justice-guided leadership (nyāya) combined with compassionate statecraft—conciliation, generosity, and forgiveness.
