सुग्रीवस्य वैरानुकथनम् (Sugriva’s Account of Enmity and Appeal to Rama)
दिष्ट्यासि कुशली प्राप्तो निहतश्च त्वया रिपुः।अनाथस्य हि मे नाथस्त्वमेकोऽनाथनन्दनः।।
diṣṭyāsi kuśalī prāpto nihataś ca tvayā ripuḥ | anāthasya hi me nāthas tvam eko ’nātha-nandanaḥ ||
By good fortune you have returned safely, and the enemy has been slain by you. For me—bereft of support—you alone are the protector, O compassionate one to the helpless.
'By providence you have come back safe and the enemy has been killed. You are the only protector to an orphan which I am.
Acknowledging rightful protection and expressing gratitude: dharma in relationships includes honoring the one who safeguards and serves as support.
Sugrīva addresses Vāli upon his return, praising his safety and victory, and presenting himself as dependent on Vāli’s protection.
