पम्पा-तीर-वर्णनम् / Rama’s Lament at Pampa and the Approach to Rishyamuka
वातविक्षिप्तविटपान्यथाऽसन्नान्द्रुमानिमान्।लतास्समनुवर्तन्ते मत्ता इव वरस्त्रियः।।।।
pādapāt pādapaṃ gacchan śailāc chailaṃ vanād vanam |
vāti naikarasāsvādaḥ sammodita ivānilaḥ ||
From tree to tree, from mountain to mountain, from forest to forest the wind blows—like one delighted by tasting many different fragrances.
'While the branches of trees swayed by the wind draw close, the creepers follow the trees like lovely women in a drunken state.
The verse subtly contrasts sense-delight with discipline: nature ‘enjoys’ fragrances without attachment, hinting that rightful living (dharma) involves moving through experiences without being enslaved by them.
Rāma continues his spring description, focusing on the wind’s movement across the landscape near Pampā.
