पम्पा-तीर-वर्णनम् / Rama’s Lament at Pampa and the Approach to Rishyamuka
मामप्येवं विशालाक्षी जानकी जातसम्भ्रमा।मदनेनाभिवर्तेत यदि नाऽपहृता भवेत्।।।।
mām apy evaṃ viśālākṣī jānakī jāta-sambhramā | madanena abhivarteta yadi nāpahṛtā bhavet ||
If the large-eyed Jānakī had not been abducted, she too—stirred by love—would have drawn near to me in just this way.
'Had the large-eyed Janaki not been stolen, she would have also paid advances to me in this manner with all her love and excitement.
Even amid intense longing, Rama frames his desire within the lawful bond of marriage; the pain arises from adharma (abduction) violating rightful union.
In Kishkindha, during springtime, Rama speaks to Lakshmana, grieving Sita’s abduction and imagining how she would have responded if they were together.
Fidelity and steadfast love—Rama’s mind remains fixed on Sita alone, and his grief is tied to the injustice done to her.
