वंशवर्णनम् तथा विवाहप्रार्थना — Genealogy of the Ikshvaku Line and the Proposal for Marriage
तमृषिं साऽभ्युपागम्य कालिंदी चाभ्यवादयत्।।1.70.33।।स तामभ्यवदद्विप्र: पुत्रेप्सुं पुत्रजन्मनि।
tam ṛṣiṁ sā 'bhyupāgamya kāliṅdī cābhyavādayat | sa tām abhyavadad vipraḥ putrepsuṁ putrajanmani || 1.70.33 ||
Approaching that sage, Kāliṅdī offered him reverent salutations. The brahmin then spoke to her, for she longed for a son and for the birth of a son.
Having approached the ascetic. Kalindi paid obeisance to him who said:
Dharma is shown in respectful approach to spiritual authority and truthful expression of one’s intention; desire is made legitimate by humility and proper conduct.
Kāliṅdī approaches Chyavana, salutes him, and the sage prepares to respond to her wish for a son.
Vinaya (humility) and śraddhā (reverent faith) in approaching a sage for guidance and blessing.
