Shloka 1.70.27
वंशवर्णनम् तथा विवाहप्रार्थना — Genealogy of the Ikshvaku Line and the Proposal for Marriage
यशस्वी ध्रुवसन्धेस्तु भरतो नाम नामत:।भरतात्तु महातेजा असितो नाम जातवान्।।1.70.27।।
yaśasvī dhruvasandhes tu bharato nāma nāmataḥ | bharatāt tu mahātejā asito nāma jātavān || 1.70.27 ||
To Dhruvasandhi was born the celebrated son named Bharata; and from Bharata was born Asita, mighty and radiant.
To Dhruvasandhi was born the well-known Bharata who begot the vigorous Asita.
The verse highlights dharma as inherited responsibility: fame and vigor are framed as qualities supporting the burdens of kingship across generations.
Janaka names further descendants, leading into Asita’s story which becomes ethically significant in later verses.
Tejas (moral-spiritual potency and vigor) as a royal virtue, paired with yashas (reputation earned through right conduct).
