Shloka 1.59.4

विश्वामित्रस्य शरणागति-प्रशंसा तथा वासिष्ठपुत्र-शापः (Visvamitra grants refuge; the curse upon Vasishta’s sons)

गुरुशापकृतं रूपं यदिदं त्वयि वर्तते ।अनेन सह रूपेण सशरीरो गमिष्यसि।।1.59.4।।

guruśāpakṛtaṃ rūpaṃ yad idaṃ tvayi vartate |

anena saha rūpeṇa saśarīro gamiṣyasi ||1.59.4||

The bodily form that now abides in you—shaped by your teacher’s curse—along with that very form, you shall depart to heaven, still embodied.

With the present physical body disfigured by the curse of your spiritual preceptor, you shall go to heaven.

V
Viśvāmitra
T
Triśaṅku
G
guru (spiritual preceptor)
S
svarga (heaven)

The verse highlights accountability under moral law: even when uplifted by a sage’s power, one carries the consequences of past actions (here, the guru’s curse) rather than escaping them.

In the Triśaṅku episode, Viśvāmitra assures Triśaṅku that he will reach heaven in his very body, despite the disfigurement resulting from his preceptor’s curse.

Viśvāmitra’s steadfast resolve and protective commitment to one who seeks his refuge, expressed through his confidence in the power of tapas.
