दितेर्गर्भभङ्गो मरुत्प्रतिष्ठा च (Diti’s Severed Embryo and the स्थापना of the Maruts; Viśālā-nagara Lineage)
प्रियं तु कर्तुमिच्छामि मम गर्भविपर्यये।मरुतां सप्तसप्तानां स्थानपाला भवन्त्विमे।।।।
priyaṃ tu kartum icchāmi mama garbhaviparyaye | marutāṃ saptasaptānāṃ sthānapālā bhavantv ime ||
Since this calamity has befallen my pregnancy against all expectation, I ask a boon: let these become the guardians of the regions as the Maruts—seven and seven.
This disaster to the embryo has happened contrary to expectations. Hence, I seek a favour from you. Let these seven pieces become seven guardians of marut regions (regions of the wind).
Transforming harm into welfare: even after suffering loss, Diti seeks a constructive outcome for the fragmented embryos, aligning personal grief with a broader cosmic good.
After the embryo is disastrously divided, Diti petitions Indra that the pieces should not be wasted but become the Maruts, guardians associated with the directions/regions.
Forbearance and magnanimity—Diti redirects tragedy into a boon for the world rather than clinging to anger.
