Shloka 1.46.12

दितितपः-शक्रपरिचर्या-गर्भभेदः (Diti’s Penance, Indra’s Service, and the Severing of the Embryo)

अथ वर्षसहस्रे तु दशोने रघुनन्दन ।दिति: परमसम्प्रीता सहस्राक्षमथाब्रवीत्।।1.46.12।।

atha varṣa-sahasre tu daśone raghunandana | ditiḥ parama-samprītā sahasrākṣam athābravīt ||1.46.12||

Then, O joy of the Raghu line, when a thousand years of her observance lacked but ten years, Diti—greatly pleased—spoke to Indra of the thousand eyes.

O son of the Raghus! ten years before completion of a thousand years. Diti, highly pleased with the services rendered by Indra, addressed him", saying:

D
Diti
I
Indra (Sahasrākṣa)
R
Rāma (Raghunandana)
A
austerity timeframe (thousand years minus ten)

Dharma values perseverance and truthful accounting of vows—time and discipline matter in tapas, and gratitude arises when service is rendered faithfully.

Near the end of Diti’s long austerity period, she becomes pleased with Indra’s service and begins addressing him.

Endurance and gratitude—Diti’s sustained observance and her pleased acknowledgment of service.
