Shloka 1.36.12

बालकाण्ड सर्ग ३६ — गङ्गा-प्रभवप्रश्नः, शिवतेजोधारणं, कार्त्तिकेय-जन्म, उमाशापः

देवतानां वचश्श्रुत्वा सर्वलोकमहेश्वर:।बाढमित्यब्रवीत्सर्वान्पुनश्चैवमुवाच ह ।।।।

dhārayiṣyāmy ahaṃ tejas tejasy eva sahomayā |

tridaśāḥ pṛthivī caiva nirvāṇam adhigacchatu ||1.36.13||

“Together with Umā, I shall hold this tejas within my own tejas; let the gods and the earth alike attain peace.”

Mahadeva, ruler of the all the worlds, having heard the words of devatas, said "Be it so" Further:

Dharma is the containment and right placement of power: restraining what could harm the world, so that beings may live in peace.

Śiva answers the gods, promising to retain his tejas within himself, ensuring peace for the gods and the earth.

Mastery over one’s own potency—Śiva exemplifies self-governance directed toward universal welfare.
