Hearing the words of the gods, Maheśvara—the Lord of all worlds—said to them all, “So be it,” and then spoke further.
"O best among the gods, the worlds cannot contain your energy (the son born of your energy) You may engage yourself in penance in the company of Uma in conformity with the Vedas. Retain your energy in your body for the welfare of the three worlds."
Dharma includes heeding rightful counsel: even the highest authority honors the collective welfare by accepting wise advice.
Śiva listens to the gods’ request and formally assents before continuing his response.
Composure and receptivity—Śiva’s willingness to align his action with the protection of the worlds.
