कुशवंशवर्णनम् — The Line of Kuśa and the Disfigurement of Kuśanābha’s Daughters by Vāyu
अथ ताश्चारुसर्वाङ्ग्यो रूपेणाप्रतिमा भुवि।उद्यानभूमिमागम्य तारा इव घनान्तरे।।।।
gāyantyo nṛtyamānāś ca vādayantyaś ca sarvaśaḥ |
āmodaṃ paramaṃ jagmur varābharaṇabhūṣitāḥ || 1.32.13 ||
Singing, dancing, and playing instruments in every direction, those maidens—adorned with splendid ornaments—moved about in the highest delight.
With beautiful limbs of unparalleled beauty on earth, they shone in the pleasure-garden like stars in the midst of clouds.
The verse foreshadows a dharmic contrast: joy and freedom of movement are legitimate, yet later the narrative tests whether pleasure remains governed by modesty, consent, and righteous social order.
The daughters of Kuśanābha enjoy themselves in the garden—singing, dancing, and making music—just before Vāyu approaches them.
A cultured refinement (saṃskāra) is suggested through music and dance; the explicit virtue (restraint) becomes central in the subsequent dialogue.
