कुशवंशवर्णनम् — The Line of Kuśa and the Disfigurement of Kuśanābha’s Daughters by Vāyu
तास्तु यौवनशालिन्यो रूपवत्य स्स्वलङ्कृता:।उद्यानभूमिमागम्य प्रावृषीव शतह्रदा:।।1.32.12।।गायन्त्यो नृत्यमानाश्च वादयन्त्यश्च सर्वश:।आमोदं परमं जग्मुर्वराभरणभूषिता:।।1.32.13।।
tās tu yauvanaśālinyo rūpavatyas svalaṅkṛtāḥ |
udayānabhūmim āgamya prāvṛṣīva śatahradāḥ || 1.32.12 ||
Those maidens—radiant with youth, beautiful, and finely adorned—came to the garden-grounds, appearing like flashes of lightning in the rainy season.
Those welladorned, beautiful, young maidens in the pleasuregarden looked like lightnings in the rainy season. Bedecked with fine ornaments they were singing, dancing, playing on instruments and moving in all directions in great delight.
The verse is descriptive, but it implicitly sets the stage for a dharmic test: external beauty and youthful splendour are shown as powerful, yet later events examine whether inner restraint and righteousness govern conduct.
Kuśanābha’s daughters arrive in the pleasure-garden, presented in vivid imagery before the ensuing encounter with Vāyu.
