अस्त्रप्रदानम् — Bestowal of Divine Astras to Rama
देवासुरगणान्वापि सगन्धर्वोरगानपि।यैरमित्रान् प्रसह्याजौ वशीकृत्य जयिष्यसि।।।।तानि दिव्यानि भद्रं ते ददाम्यस्त्राणि सर्वशः ।
devāsuragaṇān vāpi sa-gandharvoragān api | yair amitrān prasahyājau vaśīkṛtya jayiṣyasi || tāni divyāni bhadraṃ te dadāmy astrāṇi sarvaśaḥ ||
“With these you will conquer even hosts of Devas and Asuras, and also Gandharvas and serpents—subduing your enemies by force in battle and bringing them under your control. Those divine weapons—may you prosper—I grant to you in full.”
With the help of these celestial weapons, you will vanquish even gods and demons, serpents together with gandharvas if they challenge you to a battle as enemies and take them as captives. I shall confer on you all such weapons. May you prosper!
In the Ramayana’s ethical frame, the issue is not mere power but righteous restraint: Viśvāmitra equips Rāma for protecting Dharma, implying that strength must be governed by self-control and used only against adharma.
Satya appears through the trust-bound teacher–disciple relationship: Viśvāmitra’s promise to grant the weapons and Rāma’s implied commitment to use them as instructed reflects truthfulness, reliability, and adherence to vowed conduct.
