अनादृत्य तु तद्वाक्यं रावण: कालचोदित: ।।।।जगाम सह मारीचस्तस्याश्रमपदं तदा ।
tena māyāvinā dūram apavāhya nṛpātmajau | jahāra bhāryāṃ rāmasya gṛdhraṃ hatvā jaṭāyuṣam || 1.1.52 ||
By his deceitful stratagem he lured the two princes far away; then he abducted Rāma’s wife, and after slaying the vulture Jaṭāyu, fled with her.
Disregarding his words Ravana incited by fate left for the hermitage of Rama along with Maricha.
Deception and the violation of another’s spouse are grave adharma; the verse frames the abduction as an ethical rupture that demands restoration of justice.
Mārīca’s illusion draws Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa away; Rāvaṇa abducts Sītā and kills Jaṭāyu who tries to stop him.
Jaṭāyu’s loyalty and courage—risking his life to defend Sītā and resist wrongdoing.
