भरतस्य धर्मप्रतिज्ञा तथा रामनिवर्तनयात्रा (Bharata’s Vow of Dharma and the Expedition to Recall Rama)
स राघव स्सत्यधृतिः प्रतापवान् ब्रुवन् सुयुक्तं दृढसत्यविक्रमः।गुरुं महारण्यगतं यशस्विनं प्रसादयिष्यन्भरतोऽब्रवीत्तदा।।।।
sa rāghavaḥ satyadhṛtiḥ pratāpavān bruvan suyuktaṃ dṛḍha-satya-vikramaḥ |
guruṃ mahāraṇya-gataṃ yaśasvinaṃ prasādayiṣyan bharato 'bravīt tadā ||
Then Bharata, of the Raghu line—steadfast in truth and mighty in valor—spoke with sound judgment, intending to win the favor of his revered and illustrious elder brother Rama, who had gone into the great forest.
Bharata, a descendant of the Raghu race, firm in truth, one whose valour comes out of unswerving truth, speaking judiciously said this to propitiate his esteemed brother who was in the dense forest:
Dharma here is truthful integrity expressed as responsible speech: Bharata’s commitment to satya guides his intention to restore rightful order by respectfully approaching Rama rather than seizing power.
In the royal assembly, Bharata prepares to address the situation created by Rama’s exile; the verse frames Bharata as about to speak in a way meant to reconcile with Rama in the forest.
Bharata’s satya-niṣṭhā (steadfast truthfulness) and judicious restraint—his valor is portrayed as grounded in moral truth rather than ambition.
