गोदावरीतटे सीतान्वेषणम् — The Search for Sītā at the Godāvarī
सन्निरुद्धग्रहगणमावारितनिशाकरम्।।।।विप्रणष्टानलमरुद्भास्करद्युतिसंवृतम्।विनिर्मथितशैलाग्रं शुष्यमाणजलाशयम्।।।।ध्वस्तद्रुमलतागुल्मं विप्रणाशितसागरम्।त्रैलोक्यं तु करिष्यामि संयुक्तं कालकर्मणा।।।।
sanniruddhagrahagaṇam āvāritaniśākaram |
vipraṇaṣṭānalamarudbhāskaradyutisaṃvṛtam |
vinirmathitaśailāgraṃ śuṣyamāṇajalāśayam |
dhvastadrumalatāgulmaṃ vipraṇāśitasāgaram |
trailokyaṃ tu kariṣyāmi saṃyuktaṃ kālakarmaṇā |
I will make the three worlds fall into a fatal upheaval: the courses of planets will be obstructed and the moon checked; the radiance of fire, wind, and sun will be blotted out; mountain-peaks will be shattered, waters will dry up; trees, creepers, and shrubs will be ruined, and even the ocean brought to destruction—such will be the world bound to the work of death.
I will obstruct the movement of planets and the Moon, destroy the radiance of the Sun, the fire and block the wind; crush the mountain tops, dry up the tanks, destroy the trees shrubs and creepers and annihilate the oceans. I shall bring about this fatal change at once in the three worlds.
The verse dramatizes how grief can push righteous power toward excess; dharma implicitly demands that even justified anger be governed, lest the restoration of justice become universal harm.
Rāma describes apocalyptic consequences he could unleash across the cosmos if Sītā is not restored.
Intensity of commitment (niścaya) to truth and justice—paired with a warning-sign of uncontrolled wrath that later tradition reads against the ideal of maryādā (measured conduct).
