ambā ca mama kaikeyī sumitrā ca tvayā vibho | kausalyā ca yathā-nyāyam abhivādyā mamājñayā | rakṣaṇīyā prayatnena bhavatā sūkta-kāriṇā || 3.62.18-19 ||
And my mothers—Kaikeyī, Sumitrā, and Kausalyā—must be duly saluted by you, in accordance with propriety, by my command; and you, who carry out good counsel, must protect them with all effort.
My mother Kaikeyi, Sumitra and Kausalya should also be offered due obeisance. You should protect them with great effort, carrying out my instructions.
Respect and protection of elders is a binding duty: regardless of conflict or grief, one must honor mothers properly and ensure their safety—this is kula-dharma aligned with satya (upright conduct).
Rāma directs Lakṣmaṇa about proper conduct in Ayodhyā: offer respectful obeisance to the queens and protect them diligently.
Reverence and discipline—maintaining correct behavior toward elders even during crisis.
