O Kakutstha, I am dependent upon you—even were you to remain thus for a hundred years. Only tell me the lovely place of your own choosing, saying, “Let it be made there.”

Look, O Lakshmana for a place to the liking of Sita, a place where there is water source nearby where both of us can enjoy. Find a beautiful location where the surrounding forest is beautiful and where faggots, flowers, water and kusa grass are available at hand.

Lakṣmaṇa

Rāma (Kakutstha)

Dharma is faithful service (seva) grounded in truthfulness and commitment: Lakṣmaṇa binds himself to Rāma’s direction without self-interest.

Lakṣmaṇa replies to Rāma’s request to find a hermitage location, offering complete obedience and asking only for Rāma’s choice.

Unwavering loyalty and self-effacing devotion—Lakṣmaṇa places Rāma’s will above his own.
