Matsya Purana — Yayāti’s Rule
अर्हं पूरोरिदं राज्यं यः प्रियः प्रियकृत् तव वरदानेन शुक्रस्य न शक्यं वक्तुमुत्तरम् //
arhaṃ pūroridaṃ rājyaṃ yaḥ priyaḥ priyakṛt tava varadānena śukrasya na śakyaṃ vaktumuttaram //
“This kingdom rightly belongs to Pūru, for he is dear to you and acts for your good. And because of the boon granted by Śukra, no contrary reply can be given.”
This verse does not address Pralaya; it focuses on dynastic succession and the binding force of a boon in determining who should rule.
It implies that legitimate kingship is tied to merit and service: the one who is truly ‘priya’ and ‘priyakṛt’—devoted and beneficial to elders/family—becomes fit for sovereignty, reflecting a dharmic ideal of responsibility and reciprocity.
No Vāstu, temple, or ritual procedure is mentioned; the technical point here is ethical-juridical—boon-grants (vara) are treated as irrevocable constraints on later decisions.
