Matsya Purana — The Strategy to Defeat Tāraka: Pārvatī’s Birth
नारदः कुशलं देवम् अपृच्छत्पाकशासनम् पृष्टे च कुशले शक्रः प्रोवाच वचनं प्रभुः //
nāradaḥ kuśalaṃ devam apṛcchatpākaśāsanam pṛṣṭe ca kuśale śakraḥ provāca vacanaṃ prabhuḥ //
Nārada asked the god Pākaśāsana (Indra) about his well-being. Thus questioned about his welfare, Śakra, the Lord, spoke these words.
This verse does not discuss pralaya or cosmology; it functions as a narrative transition introducing Indra’s forthcoming statement after Nārada’s polite inquiry.
It reflects the dhārmic social ethic of kuśala-praśna—beginning conversation by asking about another’s welfare—an ideal of courteous speech applicable to kings, householders, and sages alike.
No vastu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is stated in this verse; it mainly establishes the speaker sequence in a Devaloka dialogue.
