Matsya Purana — The Observance of Viśoka-Dvādaśī: A Lakṣmī–Viṣṇu Vow for Sorrow-Removal and P...
नासामशोकनिधये वासुदेवाय चाक्षिणी ललाटं वामनायेति हरये च पुनर्भ्रुवौ //
nāsāmaśokanidhaye vāsudevāya cākṣiṇī lalāṭaṃ vāmanāyeti haraye ca punarbhruvau //
One should assign (by nyāsa) the name Aśokanidhī to the nose, Vāsudeva to the eyes, Vāmana to the forehead, and again Hari to the eyebrows.
This verse is not about pralaya; it belongs to ritual practice—specifically, assigning divine names to body-parts (nyāsa) as part of consecration and worship.
It supports the householder’s and patron-king’s duty of sustaining dharma through proper worship—funding and performing correct, text-based rites for Viṣṇu in temples or domestic पूजा, ensuring ritual purity and efficacy.
Ritually, it gives a precise aṅga-nyāsa mapping used in deity-installation and worship sequences; such prescriptions accompany Matsya Purana’s broader guidance on temple rites and correct liturgical procedure.
