Matsya Purana — The Kauśika Descendants: Śrāddha
किमर्थं वद कल्याणि सरोषवदना स्थिता सा तमाह सकोपा तु किम् आलपसि मां शठ //
kimarthaṃ vada kalyāṇi saroṣavadanā sthitā sā tamāha sakopā tu kim ālapasi māṃ śaṭha //
“Tell me—why is it so, O auspicious lady?” Standing there with an angered face, she replied to him in wrath: “You deceitful man—why do you speak to me at all?”
This verse does not address pralaya or cosmology; it depicts a tense interpersonal exchange marked by anger and accusation.
It highlights the destructive role of anger and abusive speech in relationships—an implicit dharma lesson for householders to practice restraint, truthful communication, and avoidance of deceit.
