Matsya Purana — The Birth of Tāraka: Varāṅgī’s Lament
अभिषिक्तो ऽसुरैः सर्वैः कुजम्भमहिषादिभिः सर्वासुरमहाराज्ये पृथिवीतुलनक्षमैः //
abhiṣikto 'suraiḥ sarvaiḥ kujambhamahiṣādibhiḥ sarvāsuramahārājye pṛthivītulanakṣamaiḥ //
He was duly consecrated by all the Asuras—by Kujambha, Mahiṣa, and others—as the great sovereign over the entire Asura realm, rulers whose might was deemed a match for the very earth.
This verse does not describe Pralaya; it focuses on political consecration—an anointing (abhiṣeka) establishing authority within the Asura realm.
It highlights legitimate rule through formal consecration and collective assent, implying that sovereignty is ritually and socially ratified—an ideal echoed in Purāṇic discussions of righteous kingship.
The ritual element is abhiṣeka (royal anointing/consecration), a key rite of installation; no Vāstu or temple-building rule is stated in this specific verse.
