Matsya Purana — The Birth of Tāraka: Varāṅgī’s Lament
बहु मेने न देवेन्द्रविजयं तु तदेव सा जातमात्रस्तु दैत्येन्द्रस् तारकश्चण्डविक्रमः //
bahu mene na devendravijayaṃ tu tadeva sā jātamātrastu daityendras tārakaścaṇḍavikramaḥ //
She did not regard Indra’s victory as anything great; for that very reason, as soon as he was born, the Daitya-lord Tāraka was of fierce and formidable prowess.
This verse does not describe Pralaya; it focuses on Devasura history, emphasizing how Tāraka’s power manifested immediately at birth.
Indirectly, it highlights a Purāṇic ethic: power and victory should not be treated with complacency—rulers must remain vigilant against emerging threats and cultivate steady governance rather than pride in past triumphs.
No Vāstu, temple-architecture, or ritual procedure is stated in this verse; it is a narrative line within a Deva–Asura conflict episode.
