Matsya Purana — Saubhagya-Śayana Vow: Lalitā/Gaurī–Śiva Worship
वासुदेवी तथा गौरी मङ्गला कमला सती उमा च दानकाले तु प्रीयतामिति कीर्तयेत् //
vāsudevī tathā gaurī maṅgalā kamalā satī umā ca dānakāle tu prīyatāmiti kīrtayet //
At the time of making a gift (dāna), one should recite: “May Vāsudevī, and also Gaurī, Maṅgalā, Kamalā, Satī, and Umā be pleased.”
This verse does not discuss pralaya; it focuses on dharma—specifically, invoking Devī’s auspicious forms so that charitable giving becomes spiritually fruitful.
It frames dāna as a regulated duty: a king or householder should give with reverence, sanctifying the act by reciting Devī’s names and praying for her pleasure, thereby increasing puṇya and social welfare.
The ritual takeaway is the dānakāla-recitation: invoking multiple Devī epithets (Gaurī, Kamalā, Umā, etc.) as a short liturgical formula to consecrate the moment of donation.
