Matsya Purana — Rite of Donating the ‘Sugar Mountain’
यो दद्याच्छर्कराशैलम् अनेन विधिना नरः सर्वपापैर् विनिर्मुक्तः स याति परमं पदम् //
yo dadyāccharkarāśailam anena vidhinā naraḥ sarvapāpair vinirmuktaḥ sa yāti paramaṃ padam //
A man who, following this prescribed procedure, donates a “mountain of sugar,” is freed from all sins and attains the supreme state.
This verse does not address Pralaya; it focuses on dana (charitable gifting) and its soteriological fruit—freedom from sin and attainment of the supreme abode.
It frames charity as a core duty (especially for householders and rulers with resources): giving according to proper vidhi is presented as a means of ethical purification and spiritual attainment.
The significance is ritual rather than architectural: the verse specifies a formal procedure (vidhi) for donating a “sharkara-shaila” (mountain-like heap of sugar), emphasizing correct rite as essential to the promised merit.
