Matsya Purana — Procedure for Going to Prayaga and the Greatness of the Ganga
तत्र गत्वा च संस्थानं महादेवस्य विश्रुतम् नरस्तारयते सर्वान् दश पूर्वान्दशापरान् //
tatra gatvā ca saṃsthānaṃ mahādevasya viśrutam narastārayate sarvān daśa pūrvāndaśāparān //
Having gone there to the renowned holy abode of Mahādeva, a man delivers all his kin from suffering—ten generations before and ten generations after.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it teaches the salvific merit (tārana) gained by visiting Mahādeva’s famed sacred abode, extending that merit to one’s lineage.
It supports the gṛhastha/kingly duty of dharma through tīrtha-yātrā and temple visitation—performing meritorious acts that protect and uplift the family line across generations.
Ritually, it highlights tīrtha-sevā/temple visitation at Mahādeva’s “saṃsthāna” (sacred seat/abode); the focus is on pilgrimage merit rather than specific Vāstu measurements.
